HCD Ltd completed the demolition of the former Red Dragon Public House at Moorland Road, Sandfields, Port Talbot, to facilitate the construction of a new 22-unit apartment development and associated infrastructure works.
The mid-20th century public house, which had stood vacant for several years, occupied a prominent corner site within a densely populated residential area. The project involved asbestos removal, a full internal soft strip, demolition of the existing structure, removal of foundations, and partial removal of the surrounding car park.
The works were delivered to an exceptionally high standard, demonstrating strong planning, effective coordination, and excellent site control throughout. Particular attention was given to maintaining positive relationships with neighbouring residents, with clear communication helping to minimise disruption during the demolition programme.
Operating within a sensitive residential environment required a proactive approach to environmental management. Despite mixed weather conditions, our successfully implemented robust dust suppression measures, combining natural conditions with active controls to minimise airborne particulates and protect the surrounding community.
The safe removal of asbestos-containing materials formed a critical early phase of the project, with all works carefully managed in accordance with approved procedures and industry best practice before structural demolition commenced.
Through meticulous planning, high safety standards, and a commitment to environmental responsibility, we successfully cleared the site for redevelopment, helping to deliver much-needed new housing for the Sandfields area.
