HCD Ltd has been appointed as Principal Contractor to undertake the controlled demolition and site clearance of the redundant Sinter Plant and Stock Houses at Tata Steel UK Ltd’s Port Talbot steelworks in South Wales.
Located at the heart of one of the UK’s largest operational steel manufacturing facilities, this major project showcases our capability to safely deliver complex, large-scale industrial demolition works within a live operational environment. The scope encompasses the hazardous material removal, dismantling, demolition and clearance of extensive process plant infrastructure, ultimately returning the site to slab level in preparation for future redevelopment.
The project involves the removal of substantial industrial assets, including process plant structures, conveyors, stacks, ancillary buildings, pipework networks, pipe bridges, electrical cabling systems and associated equipment. Working within a highly regulated and operational steelworks environment demands meticulous planning, robust engineering solutions and an uncompromising commitment to safety, environmental protection and operational continuity.
A key element of the works is the safe decommissioning and removal of process equipment throughout the facility, including machinery, storage vessels and associated systems. Our experienced project team has developed a carefully phased programme that allows dismantling activities to progress efficiently while maintaining structural integrity and ensuring minimal disruption to surrounding operations.
The project also includes the controlled explosive demolition of the Sinter Plant Phase B and Phase D structures, together with the Stock Houses.
